Minecon is over!

So, Minecon 2011 has ended. It was a LOT of fun and we met a lot of great people.

The Here Comes Launchman kiosk was a rousing success. I didn’t once see the station empty, which is very satisfying. We held a contest in which players’ best times were saved to the leaderboards when beating the demo, and the top three times would receive a free copy of the game. However, the demo turned out to be a lot harder than originally anticipated, and only five people completed the demo (two of them actually completed it twice though, for a total of 7 times on the leaderboard). So, we decided to just give all five people the game code instead.

More details after the break.

That Launchman demo at Minecon? We’re going to polish it up based on feedback from people and things we learned there and release it publicly. I can’t say when it’ll be but it’ll be by the end of 2011, which isn’t exactly far off now!

The Indie Dev Theater was also really great and I got to see some really cool stuff exhibited. I’d like to give a special note to Retro/Grade, which was on before us, a really awesome game that is a cross between a scrolling space shooter played in reverse and Guitar Hero. I also helped save the Zombie Grinder presentation from a million technical mishaps ruining everything — that’s an awesome game too, so check it out.

I also got to pal around with some other cool folks on the setup day — saw the folks from LethalDrive, played a board game called Dicecraft with its creators (spoiler alert: it’s AMAZING), met Deadmau5, hung around the indie theater kiosk area (and subsequently had dinner) with David Carrigg from Retro Affect, Danny Baranowsky (music from Super Meat Boy), Petri Purho (Crayon Physics Deluxe), and Terry Cavanagh (VVVVVV). They’re all a bunch of really really awesome guys and I’m very lucky to have gotten the chance to meet them.

Lastly but not leastly, Ted Hubish and I had a great time hanging out this weekend! We scooted all over everywhere forever. We also had dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and a mariachi band covered “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” and “Escape (The PiƱa Colada Song)”. It was pretty hilarious (and they were good singers too). But anyway, here we are:
