On Friday I pushed Bucket, ACME’s second release, to the site. But first off, what is ACME anyway? ACME, or the Awesome Creative Media Engine, is the content management software we use at The Layabouts. It’s what lets us have everything from music to comics in one organized and central place.
You might have heard us talk about ACME in the past, but we’ve never discussed it in great detail. The reason for this is that we didn’t have a proper admin panel before, so it was difficult for ACME users to manage their site. Starting with Bucket, that is no longer the case.
The other big thing introduced in Bucket is proper ZIP generation support. When adding content to the site we push a button to generate the ZIP beforehand and make the result available for download. Previously ZIPs were generated every time someone wanted to download one. This put unnecessary load on the server and made downloads slower for everyone.
Hopefully, with these new changes, some of you out there will find a good use for ACME. We’ve got plenty more to add in the future, and we’ll be sure to keep you all posted during the development process. But for now thanks for reading, and enjoy.
